The Adventure--An original composition written for the Mitchell Intermediate Honor Band. Sub-titled, "What Lies Ahead", "The Adventure Begins", "New Experiences", "Far From Home" and "Mixed Emotions".

An Insomniac's Fanfare--I woke the other night with this banging away in my head. It wouldn't go away and I couldn't get back to sleep. So I sketched it out and worked on it later. Hopefully whatever comes next will pop into my brain later. HSB run through of this. Redid it a while back for brass quintet. Here's the Synergy Brass recording of it.

And the Walls Came Tumbling Down--the newest in my series of works based on biblical stories. This one represents the battle of Jericho. It begins with Joshua's army in the distance. They march toward Jericho. Once arriving they march around the city and blow their horns until finally the walls come down. They then march away from the city back to where they started. A slightly better computer version than the Scorch version. HSB rehearsal recording.

Bouree--a brass quintet arrangement of a Bach piece that lets everyone show off, esp. the tuba player. . MP3 of Texas Brass performing an earlier version this work. Current version modulates up a step on last statement of melody.

Christmas Potpourri--full band arrangement of many not so common Christmas Tunes (no Jingle Bells) such as Coventry Carol, O Come O Come Emmanuel, I Saw Three Ships, Angels We Have Heard on High, etc. Like a potpourri is composed of many different items so is this arrangement. Not only does it use several carols, but has several ensembles. Within the piece there are full band sections, solos, duets, brass choir, woodwind choir, woodwind quartet, sax quartet, horn quartet, even a big band section. Plus most of the songs are connected by a tuba drone, so you can leave out sections that don't work for your band and the tune will still work. MP3 of HSB reading this. Soon to be published by TRN Music.

The Fall--the sequel to In the Beginning. An original work based on the hymn "He Leadeth Me" musically representing man's fall from grace. Subtitled "Adam", "Eve", "The Serpent", "Tree of Knowledge" and "Exile". The "Scorch" sounds are not that great. HSB recording of the premier of this at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church in November, 2007.

In the Beginning--an original composition for band based on the hymn "This Is My Father's World" musically representing the creation of the universe. Subtitled "Darkness", "Light", "The Heavens", "The Earth", "The Seas" and "Garden of Eden". The end is a major chord a tritone above tonic since the tritone was called "The Devil's interval". Hince we end with Satan entering The Garden of Eden. HSB recording from St. Timothy's Lutheran Church on May 6, 2007.

A Jolly King's Christmas--a beginning band arrangement using the themes from Good King Wencelas, Jolly Old Saint Nicholas, Up on the Housetop and a smidgen of Jingle Bells. Every section gets a soli. Range from low concert A natural to concert G. Only quarter, half and whole notes are used except for percussion that also has eighth notes. HSB recording.

Mustang Mania--an original solo that I wrote for my first year brass players. Easy range (concert Ab to G) and simple rhythms (half, quarter and eighths). It uses a few slurs and has one section to work on dynamics (mp and f with one crescendo).

Night of Silence--a medium difficulty arrangement of a variation on Silent Night based on a vocal work by Kantor. It sounds better with band than the MIDI file. MP3 of Houston Symphonic Band's performance of this work. I also have a brass quintet arrangement of this same piece. I'm awaiting copyright permission from GIA Publications. Until I receive this, this arrangement is unavailable.

Oops, Goes Percussion--a novelty tune I got the idea for when, yet again, a percussionist dropped something during a concert. It also gives a chance for certain students to be featured. I wrote it as a theme and variation. The theme is "Pop, Goes the Weasel". Each variation featrues a different instrument. The Spanish "bullfighter" section features trumpet. The waltz section features flute. The blues section features trombone but can use the trumpet again or a horn. The jazzy section features alto sax but can use the flute again. It ends with the percussion. During each section on the "Pop" there's a percussion "mishap"--"broken" triangle string, dropped stick, hitting wrong part of cymbal, duck call that doesn't quack, etc. Unfortnately there's no way to get the computer to do this, so, until I get a live recording, you'll have to just imagine it. As with "The Fall" I have a slightly better computer version.

This Old Yankee Star--a beginning band arrangement incorporating Yankee Doodle, This Old Man and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. Each section gets a soli at some point in the song. Range is from low concert A natural to concert G. Only quarter, half and whole notes are used except for percussion that also has eighth notes. HSB recording. Score for slightly harder version.
