Turbo Learning is a set of computer programs to help young musicians learn to immediately recognize basic rhythms, note names and fingerings. By breaking up the material into small chunks and increasing the speed the students have to identify the individual elements, you will be thrilled at how quickly they learn the material while they will be amazed at how much fun it is to learn. Turbo Learning is divided into many different sections so you can customize the software to just the elements you need for your students. Rhythm Patterns Just like we learn to read words instead of individual letters, this set of programs will teach students to read rhythm patterns instead of individual notes. It is divided into three sections, Basic, Intermediate and Advanced, with each section divided into three levels. The Basic section will teach whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, basic eighth note patterns, half rests and quarter rests. The Intermediate section will teach dotted quarter/eighths, single eighths and eighth rests. The Advanced section introduces sixteenth patterns, dotted eighth/sixteen, syncopation and six eight time. You may also provide up to 30 rhythms for a custom set of slides. Cost: $40 per section or $100 for all three. Basic Rhythms--One Second Sample Note Names and Fingerings It is very important that young students learn to immediately know their note names and fingerings. Each instrument is divided into 5 levels. You may customize the levels to fit your own needs or take the basic set list below. Sets are available for individual instruments, all the brass, all the woodwinds or all the instruments, so you can purchase only the sets needed for your particular situation. Cost: $30 per instrument.

How It Works Each module is divided into 4 sections--no flash, one second, half second and quarter second. The first section remains on screen so you can talk about it, demonstrate why the note is the name it is and how to finger it or show how to count it. Once students are proficient at this you go to the one second section. During this section each slide shows on screen for one second and then disappears. For notes, one second later the name of the note and the fingering appears. Once students are able to handle this section then you move on to the half second slides. Finally you can move to the quarter second slides. By this level students have learned to immediately recognize the notes or rhythms. All the sections show the slides in random order so students must learn to recognize the material and not just memorise the order. With the rhythm slides you can use a metronome and flash the slides at various points within the measure to make your students read ahead. On the note slides you can hit the arrow key to skip to the next slide without waiting for the answer to appear. So you can have students answer as fast as they can and, if they miss one, wait and let the answer for just that note appear. Finally all the programs you order are installed into one program for you. You navigate through menus to get to the portion you want. When you close a program the menu reappears on the screen so you don't have to reopen the program every time you want to do something new. Questions? Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions. I'm also open to suggestions for future modules. I'm currently working on a set of programs for teaching scales. So check back often to see what new features are available.
